Which $20 AI plan should I get? (Oct 2026)

Last checked 2026-10-29

Honestly, there's no single best plan. They're all roughly $20, and the differences come down to what you actually do every day. Here's how we'd think about it, using only what the official pricing and help pages say.

Price check first

PlanMonthlyPer month, paid yearly
Microsoft 365 Premium$19.99$16.67
Claude Pro$20$17
Perplexity Pro$20$17
Google AI Pro$19.99not listed
ChatGPT Plus$20not listed
X Subscription Premium (SuperGrok)$30$25

X Subscription Premium (what replaced SuperGrok) is $30, so it's not really a $20 plan anymore. There's an $8 Plus tier, but it doesn't include Grok Bot or cloud agents.

Pick by what you do

You code a lot

Look at ChatGPT Plus or Claude Pro. Plus comes with Codex, and Claude Pro comes with Claude Code. Claude's limits are shared between chat and Claude Code, so heavy coding eats into your chat time. See ChatGPT Plus vs Claude Pro.

You already pay Google for storage, or want to share with family

Look at Google AI Pro. 5 TB storage, sharing with up to 5 others and YouTube Premium Lite, plus image and video generation, all for $19.99/mo.

You live in Word, Excel and Outlook

Look at Microsoft 365 Premium. Copilot inside the Office apps plus 2 TB shared storage for 1–6 people (the AI features are for the owner only). It's also the cheapest yearly option at $16.67/mo.

You mostly look stuff up

Look at Perplexity Pro. Search-first, with Pro Search and Research built in. $17/mo yearly. See Perplexity Pro vs ChatGPT Plus.

You want images and video

Look at Google AI Pro or X Subscription Premium (SuperGrok). Both list video generation. Google is $19.99/mo, and X Subscription Premium is $30/mo but bundles Cursor and X Premium+.

You just want one good all-rounder

Look at ChatGPT Plus. Image creation, deep research, agents, Codex, custom GPTs, scheduled tasks. It's the widest toolbox, with no fixed public message cap.

One thing nobody tells you

None of these plans publish real message counts. Claude, Google and X all use rolling windows or weekly pools, and OpenAI only gives estimates for Codex. If someone tells you "you get X messages," ask for the source. Plans change too, so check the change log before you pay.
